ROXANNE, 18, IS TRAVELLING THE WORLD WITH BEBO'S THE GAP YEAR. SHE'S ENCOUNTERED LOTS OF FIT LADS, SOME WEIRD FOOD AND, YES, A SHARK!
When an email appeared in my inbox one day asking me if I would like to travel around the world for six months with Bebo’s The Gap Year, I uploaded my entry video that night. My ambition has always been to move to America to be a make-up artist and I thought travelling would be a good place to start.
 During the audition I was asked where in the world I would most like to go and I told then that I would love to see New Zealand and Australia. I’ve heard such amazing stories about those places, so I couldn’t believe my luck when that was where I was chosen to go.
I’ve been on the road since May. I’m travelling on my own, but in case anybody thinks it’s a piece of cake, it isn’t, it’s a lot of work and can be quite stressful at times.
I’ve done some things I never dreamed I would do though. Last week I was chomping down on a kangaroo steak, and man, it was the nicest thing with chips and salad. I’d eat it any time of the day!
Probably the scariest thing that has happened to me (ever!) was the day I was swimming in the sea with my mates when someone shouted “there he is!” I put my head under water and right there in my face was a massive whale shark. I nearly died of fright! You’re supposed to stay several metres away as whale sharks can be dangerous, but it was too late and we actually headbutted – that was one of the most terrifying moments of my life.
I wasn’t expecting to be homesick but it’s hard being out of your comfort zone for so long. I really miss Bryan, my boyfriend, even though there are lots of fit guys out here!
