Graffiti 6's Jamie Scott
Mybliss recently sat down for a chat with Graffiti 6 singer (and all-round hottie) Jamie Scott. Their latest single, Annie You Save Me, is out on July 26th, and we predict it's gonna be a hit! Read on to hear Jamie's tips for budding musicians, have a giggle over his secret nerdy hobby and find out what gets him on the dancefloor. Oh and he's even given mybliss exclusive permission to find him a celeb girlfriend...
Bliss: In your video diary on You Tube, we sensed a bit of a bro-mance going on with you and Tommy - are you quite good mates?
Jamie: Just for the record, being friends is as far as it goes! (Laughs)But seriously I don’t think that we'd have made it and have been able to do a whole album if we weren't.
B: Have you ever got into an argument over your music?
J: Well we've got an album out with 12 tracks, we've basically finished it and those are the only tracks that we have completely and 100% agreed on. We had to have a middle ground on things that we both felt happy with and liked the sound of. I write folk and soul music and he comes from a totally different background so there will be a point when one of us will be like ,'I’m not feeling that really', but the whole point of the band is that with every track we are both like, 'That’s wicked!' I wouldn’t want to sit in a room with someone who agreed with everything that I say, I think that would be boring.
B: I heard that Tommy worked on Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy…do you ever slag him off for that?
J: Ha ha, no I just don’t mention that.
B: You've taken a bit of an alternative route to getting your music out there. You didn’t get sucked in by any record labels or let them sway you. What advice would you give any budding musicians?
J: These days you can make a record so easily. As an artist you always want to make something you are proud of and you can do it easily these days with technology. Once you have made a record that you are really happy with, and you've got something you are proud of that you believe in, labels will probably be in for what you are doing anyway. If don’t want to do it yourself, and you want to take the advice of a label, then you have that option as well.
B: What gets you up on the dancefloor when you're in a club?
J: Michael Jackson, Off The Wall. I mean I would be doing it pretty badly but it would definitely get me up on the dancefloor.
B: Can you moonwalk?
J: No! I haven’t tried and I wouldn’t really want to. It would just look as though I was trying to walk backwards and I'd look like I didn’t know what I was doing.
B: It might get the ladies though! Jamie you are a bit of a heartthrob. What are your fans like when you meet them, do they get carried away?
J: Errrrrrm, well you know what, I haven’t met any fans yet. We have been locked away in the studio recording albums so I am hoping that when we come out and open the door they will all be queuing up outside!
B: We featured you on our website in the Lads We Love section and called you ‘Scottie the Hottie’. Did you have any other nicknames when you were growing up?
J: That’s cool! No I used to get called space cadet when I was at school because I don’t think that they thought I was there that much.
B: So do you have a girlfriend?
J: No, I definitely don’t have a girlfriend. I have been locked in the studio for four months without any form of a relationship.
B: Are there any celebs that you would like to hook up with?
J: Tommy could probably answer that one for me. (Calls to his bandmate)Tommy are there any female celebs that I would like to hook up with?
Tommy: Yes! Angelina Jolie keeps coming round here all the time and asking about you!
B: Ooh Brad won't be happy about that.
J: Maybe you could do a little survey where you could find out which female celeb would be interested in me! Or ask your readers who they think I should date and I could try to make it happen...
B: What would you say has been your worst gig experience?
J: I think my worst gig experience was the first one that I ever did in my life at Hatfield University. The power went off in my first song and obviously you cant even talk to the audience because the mic goes. I felt like a plum. I didn’t quite know what to do until one of my people shouted 'Re-wind' and then the power came on, so it kind of looked as though we had meant it to happen.
B: The Sun used your song Stare Into The Sun for their advertisement campaign - if you were staring into The Sun what section would you most likely be reading?
J: Probably the sport section I know that's quite boring but it is the only thing that I would turn to straight away
B: So are you watching Wimbledon at the moment or The World Cup?
J: I'm into both really, I am a really big tennis fan I used to play a lot of tennis when I was younger. I normally go every year, but this year we had something come up so I couldn’t actually go. I told Tommy that we were going to go and he was all up for it - until I told him that you had to queue for 2 hours - then he told me that he wasn’t up for it anymore.
B: So you're a good tennis player, do you have any other talents or hobbies we should know about?
J: I recently got into flying little mini planes but the ones that I really want to fly properly are the really bigger ones with petrol engines. When I was little I couldn’t even fly my little helicopter - I'd fly into into my nan’s house. I figure that I shouldn’t be flying the big ones yet. It would probably end in a massive fire somewhere.
B: That’s probably sensible! So your single Annie You Save Me is out on July 26th, are you excited or nervous?
J: You know what? The whole point of doing this ourselves is just exciting and we are really enjoying it. Being played on Radio 1 and Radio 2 is all really exciting and we are just going to see how far we can take this. The whole point of Graffiti Six is that we don’t try and do anything normally!
